# Request time off

> Ask for vacation or other time off, and track whether it's approved.

<Info>**For your team.** Everyone can request their own time off.</Info>

When you need a day (or a week) off, you request it in Vera. Your manager sees
the request and approves or declines it, and you can follow along the whole way.

## Request time off

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Schedule">
    Click **Schedule** in the top tabs, then click the **My shifts** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a request">
    Scroll to the **Time off** section and click **Request time off**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the dates">
    Choose the **Type** (for example, Vacation), then pick a **Start date** and
    **End date**. Dates use your workspace's time zone.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a note (optional)">
    Add a short note if it helps your manager — for example, "Family trip."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send it">
    Click **Request time off**. Your request appears in the list marked
    **Pending**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Track your request

Each request shows a status:

* **Pending** — waiting on your manager.
* **Approved** — you're good to go.
* **Declined** — not approved this time. If your manager left a note, you'll see
  it under **Note from your manager**.

To cancel a request that's still **Pending**, click **Cancel request** on it.

## What success looks like

Your time-off request is logged with the right dates, your manager is notified,
and you can see at a glance whether it's approved — no back-and-forth needed.

## Related: swapping a shift

Just need someone to take one shift, not a whole day off? That's a **swap** or a
**cover** request instead — see [Your shifts](/everyday/your-shifts).

## Next step

You'll be told the moment your request is decided — see
[Notifications](/everyday/notifications).
